Kennedy, Brosque score braces as Australia hammer Malaysia

Australia have warmed up for their next World Cup qualifier with a 5-0 thumping of Malaysia in Canberra on Friday night.

J-League stars Josh Kennedy and Alex Brosque both scored doubles as Luke Wilkshire also got in on the act with the opening goal in the third minute at Canberra Stadium.

Just over 10,000 fans showed up to see Holger Osieck's Socceroos do the job over the 146th-ranked Malays as Dinamo Moscow's Wilkshire kicked things off when Rhys Williams found him in the area to side foot home for his sixth international goal before Kennedy added a second in the 33rd minute after receiving a neat ball from Neil Kilkenny.

Six minutes later and it was 3-0 as Kennedy and Brosque combined for the latter to hammer home prior to the lanky Nagoya Grampus striker's second in injury time of the first half.

If the victory wasn't complete at the break, it certainly was when Brosque made it 5-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining from outside the area in what was a good lead-up for Tuesday's more important clash with Oman in Sydney.
