Kawasaki Frontale have stunned reigning Asian champions Gamba Osaka, defeating them 3-2 in the knockout stage of the competition. Kawasaki came from behind twice do defeat Gamba at their home ground and book a place in the quarter-finals.
Gamba striker Montera Leandro netted in the 27th minute with a well-taken shot after beating two defenders before Kawasaki equalised six minutes through midfielder Kengo Nakamura.
The home side again took the lead again through Leandro who headed home in the 39th minute and from then on the scores remained at 2-1.
In the 76th minute however, the visitors changed the whole dynamic of the match by equalising once again, this time through Renatinho who struck from outside the box and just under ten minutes later, Masaru Kurotsu put his side ahead for the first time in the match.
Kawasaki managed to hold on for the final few minutes and record a resounding come-from-behind victory over the tournament favourites.
