Kagawa a certainty but plenty of absentees for Man Utd's trip to South Africa, China

Shinji Kagawa will be front and centre at Manchester United's pre-season tour to South Africa and China but there will be plenty of faces missing according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Japan international, who signed from Borussia Dortmund last week, will be a certain starter for the trip along with fellow new signing Nick Powell but the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, David de Gea and Nemanja Vidic are unlikely to make it.

Rooney will be given a three-week break to freshen up for next season whilst Giggs and de Gea have Team Great Britain and Spain duties respectively at the Olympics. Vidic, along with Chris Smalling and Darren Fletcher will not attend as they recover from injuries and illness.

"It's obviously very difficult in a year when we have had a Euro tournament and we also have the Olympics this year," said Ferguson.

"The final squad hasn't been decided yet but we will be taking the strongest team we have available.

"We are all looking forward to the pre-season tour.

"I am delighted that our new newest signings, Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell, will be in the travelling squad along with more established players such as Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Ji Sung-Park."
