Juventus strike back with 2-1 win over Inter Milan

Claudio Marchisio scored a classy winner as Juventus reopened the Serie A title race with a 2-1 win over Inter Milan last night. The result, following AC Milan's classy 3-0 win over Sampdoria earlier in the day, left Inter Milan only four points clear of their San Siro co-tenants, with Juventus a further point behind.

Giorgio Chiellini had given Juventus the lead in the 20th minute, his header from a Diego freekick taking a slight deflection off Inter defender Lucio.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for sarcastically applauding the referee for awarding the orginal freekick.

It didn't take long for Inter to equalise though, with Eto'o nodding in Dejan Stankovic's cross after a quick free kick six minutes later.

It was left to Marchisio to settle the scoring in the 58th minute, picking up on a loose ball inside the area and slinking passed the flat footed Inter defence before superbly chipping over Inter keeper Julio Cesar.

Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo was sent off in the 87th minute to give the Juventus fans a nervous time, but solid defence kept out Inter's advances to secure the valuable victory for the home side.
