Juventus have made a formal £20 million offer for Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe.
The Sunday Mirror says Tottenham yesterday responded by increasing their opening bid for the Portsmouth striker to £16million.
The Pompey star has made it clear he wants to move to Spurs to be reunited with boss Harry Redknapp.
The clubs are inching towards agreement on a deal and Defoe has been the target for death threats from Portsmouth fans and looks certain to have played his last game.
He said: "I have absolutely no idea how they got hold of my number but some of the calls have made me feel sick to my stomach."
