Alessandro Del Piero has been named captain of A-League club Sydney FC.
The 38-year old Italian great has been a fan favourite since joining the Sky Blues from Juventus before last season and has now been rewarded with the official leadership role of the team.
Del Piero was thrilled to be handed the captain's armband: "This is a great honour for me to be given the captaincy of one of Australia and Asia's biggest clubs.
"It's a very proud moment for me and I will give everything to help the club win the Hyundai A-LeagueChampionship this season.
"I hope supporters get behind the team and all together we can be successful."
"He has already shown his leadership qualities since being here, helping out the younger players and becoming a major influence within the team."
