David Trezeguet says he is in India to help lift the standard of football in the country.
The French striker is playing for Pune City in the inaugural season of the Indian Super League (ISL) and insists that he and the other big-name players in the eight-team competition are there to give the world game an overall better quality in the second-most populous country in the world.
"I and the others have come for the ISL to help Indian football and the players grow," said the Juventus icon.
"We are the first line of players here. We have the responsibility and we will do all we can to help Indian football and hopefully others who come in the following years will do the same."
Trezeguet added that adjusting to life in India has been difficult but says it gets easier each day.
"At the beginning we have to adapt to many situations, different cultures, different lifestyles. But we are a strong group," he added.
"We have to travel a lot to the games, different venues. Things are going well and it's going to get easier day by day."
Trezeguet has been joined by former Juventus teammate Alessandro Del Piero, ex-Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia, Brazilian midfielder Elano (formerly of Manchester City), Arsenal great Robert Pires, veteran English goalkeeper David James, ex-Gunners star Fredrik Ljungberg and former Villarreal full-back Joan Capdevila in the debut season of the ISL.
