Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny snaps on Euro semi defeat: Here we play to win trophies, not to participate

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny offered a stark assessment of their Europa League semifinal defeat at Sevilla.

Suso and Erik Lamela struck for Sevilla as they won 2-1 with Dusan Vlahovic scoring for Juve. Sevilla reach the final 3-2 on aggregate.

Sevilla will meet Roma in the final.

Szczesny barked: "If I make so many saves, it's not a good sign for our performance, it remains a big disappointment. There's always a season without trophies, here you compete to win and not to participate.

"With all the difficulties and with all the growth of the boys, it remains a season without trophies so not very well. I would have preferred a match without a vote on the report card and go through."

Did the off-field events affect the locker room?

The Pole also said: "In my opinion, they did well in the locker room, we felt like waging war against everything and everyone. Hearing about sentences and penalties doesn't help, we're second but we don't know what the new penalty will be. To achieve success, you have to be very well organised, this is It's been a very special year."
