Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro has backed Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli to succeed Marcello Lippi after the World Cup.

Cannavaro intends to stand down as Italy captain at the end of the South African tournament.

"Prandelli is a Coach with a great deal of experience, knows how to work with young people and handling a group of players accustomed to the Champions League," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"I had the good fortune to work with him at Parma for a little while before my move to Inter.

"Even in that brief period, you could tell his qualities. Would he be a good choice after Lippi? Not bad..."
