Juventus pulled out of a three-way striker deal in the final moments of yesterday's transfer deadline day.
Juve were prepared to sell Fabio Quagliarella, taking Alberto Gilardino off Genoa's hands as a direct replacement.
In turn, Genoa were ready to sign Marco Borriello to fill the void left by Gilardino.
Negotiations had been ongoing since the early hours of the morning, but Gilardino began getting itchy feet over his move to Juve, concerned it may put his World Cup hopes at risk.
Juve were concerned he'd back out at the last minute and so took Quagliarella off the market, collapsing the entire triple transfer in the process.
