Jordi Mestre resigned fed-up with internal Barcelona criticism

Jordi Mestre resigned as vice-president of Barcelona after becoming frustrated over the constant internal criticism.

Mestre, a close ally of president Josep Maria Bartomeu, announced his resignation on Wednesday afternoon.

Sport says he chose to quit out of exasperation over the constant sniping from fellow board members over the handling of the club's football operations.

Mestre has long felt the likes of Pep Segura and Eric Abidal were being undermined from inside the club.

And the final straw was more criticism after it was decided to sell Andre Gomes (Everton) and Denis Suarez (Celta Vigo) this week, despite the decisions having been in place for months.
