Johnson will ink Man City contract today

Michael Johnson will today sign a new five-year contract with Manchester City.

The Guardian says contract talks were on the verge of collapsing last week, raising David Moyes' hopes of breaking his close-season duck at Everton. But the sticking points have been removed, reflecting City's commitment to keeping a talented individual valued at around £10m.

Johnson, who has forged a close relationship with Mark Hughes, had three years left on his existing contract but that was signed before his emergence as a senior player. The new deal contains a large and immediate pay increase.
