Joe Allen says a tough preseason is ideal for Liverpool.
The Reds will compete in the Champions League this season.
The midfielder told liverpoolfc.com: "You want to test yourself against some of the top teams - that's the best way to get ready for what is going to be a tough season.
"We've got the Premier League but also the Champions League games to look forward to. The tougher the opposition, the better we'll be come the start of the season hopefully."
