Derby County boss Paul Jewell admits he was left frustrated with his team's defending after their 4-1 defeat at Manchester United.

"The thing that is driving me up the wall is that we keep giving goals away because of elementary, basic errors," he said. "For their opening goal, we have about four opportunities to clear and we still could not manage it."

Jewell believes his side, who remain marooned at the bottom, have much to learn from United, not especially in terms of skill, but definitely their application.

"The thing that sets these top players apart is that they do have talent but they also have a massive desire to do well.

"Ryan Giggs is as hungry now as he was when he first came into the team. It may take time but it is something I want to try and instil into my own players."

Jewell knows he faces a mammoth task to keep Derby afloat but at least his sense of humour remains in tact after substitute Steven Howard scored the Rams first away goal of the campaign.

"We were 25-1 to win the game, so anything we got out of it was a bonus," he smiled.

"A corner would have been nice but we actually scored a goal so there will probably be a public holiday in Derby next week now."
