Ronnie Jepson has resigned as manager of Gillingham after a disappointing start to the season for the League One club.
Jepson offered his resignation to chairman Paul Scally on Sunday morning following the 3-0 defeat against Southend.
The loss at Roots Hall was Gillingham's fifth in their opening six matches of the season and leaves the Kent club in 22nd place in League One.
A statement released by the club read: "Gillingham have parted company with manager Ronnie Jepson with immediate effect.
"The former Burnley coach met with chairman Paul Scally earlier today and offered his resignation after a disappointing start to the season."
Jepson had been in charge since November 2005.
