It's an honour to be a Korean hero - Bayer Leverkusen ace Son

Korean striker Hyueng-Min Son, who has been in inspiring form his club side Bayer Leverkusen, sat down with bundesliga.com to discuss his country's obsession with football, and his pride of being known as a Korean hero.

The 22 year old Korean was one of the stars of the Asian Cup in Australia earlier in the year, and has since become a national hero in his home country.

Son's Leverkusen travel to Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend in a crucial tie in the race for a Champions League place.

"I do know that a lot of people follow the Bundesliga in Korea. And I think most of them will be cheering Leverkusen on this weekend."

Son's performances in Germany and at the Asian Cup in Australia have earned him the tag of 'the best player in Asia', but he chooses not to be influenced by these type of comments.

"I try not to let myself be influenced negatively by things like that. What would be the point? I'm just really happy about it and try to maintain my performance level and keep improving. The important thing is that you keep enjoying the game, which I do."

When asked about a comment he made earlier in the year: "Us Koreans are very hard workers", he said, "Diligence, hard work and fun - I try to combine all of those things, but the same goes for everyone in the team. You'll never be successful nowadays without the desire to perform."

Son will next feature for Korea when they host the United Arab Emirates in a friendly match, before they kick off their World Cup qualification campaign on the 16th of June against Myanmar.
