IT JUST AIN’T HAPPENING: Swansea striker Mo Barrow fails to impress in early stages of Blackburn loan

Swansea City paid £1.5 million for Mo Barrow after the Gambian's spell at Swedish Side Ostersunds FK, where he scored at a rate of more than a goal every two games.

The striker has not been able to replicate that form in England thus far however, and features in this column after another disappointing week at loan side Blackburn Rovers.

After an unsuccessful loan period at Nottingham Forrest last campaign, Swansea manager Garry Monk loaned Barrow out to Championship side Blackburn.

The 22-year-old spoke about making his mark at Rovers upon arrival, but has so far failed to get off the ground in a disappointing start to his three-month spell at Ewood Park.

Blackburn are winless in their first five games of the league season, and crashed out of the League Cup after losing a first round tie against League OneShrewsbury Town.

After a disappointing performance against Huddersfield Town, where he was substituted, Barrow has featured three times off the bench for Rovers, failing to register a goal or assist. In fact, the Gambian has scored just once in 19 appearances since moving to England, a goal that came seven months ago for Swansea in a 6-2 FA Cup win against Tranmere Rovers.

With the score deadlocked at 0-0, Blackburn manager Garry Bowyer injected Barrow into the game for a ten-minute burst, but he failed to make an impact.

Despite having played a game extra over the rest of the competition, Rovers sit in 21st position on the Championship table, and could find themselves in relegation trouble if they can't find a reliable avenue to goal.

Barrow possesses obvious quality, and clearly has the speed and power to make it in England, be it up front or out wide on the right, where he has been trialled at times this season.

But can he string the minutes together that will see him continue to adjust to the rigours of English football.
