Irvine hoping West Brom can keep hold of Berahino

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine insists he wants to keep Saido Berahino at the club for the foreseeable future.

The 21-year old striker has hinted at a possible future departure as he chases his dream of playing Champions League football as well as competing at World Cups and European Championships with England.

Berahino, who was called up for the first time by England's seniors this week, has been in fine form with seven goals this season and Irvine is determined to keep him at The Hawthorns so that can continue for the Baggies.

"I hope not," said Irvine when asked if he would lose Berahino.

"We are hoping to take the club forward. We all know there are certain clubs who are competing for Champions League spots year after year and it's important for any young player who wants to go to those clubs to make sure it's the right time to go."

Berahino has netted more than half of Albion's 13 Premier League goals this season with the West Midlands club sitting 11th on the table ahead of Sunday's home clash with Newcastle United.
