Inter Milan legend Spillo Altobelli has questioned the appointment of new coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
The former Genoa boss was named new Inter coach last week.
"We welcome Gasperini, but we certainly can't say he was the first choice," former striker Altobelli told Calciomercato.it.
"I imagine he'll have a year to prove himself, then we'll see."
The decision came after a long period of uncertainty in which Inter were turned down by Marcelo Bielsa, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Andre Villas-Boas.
"Leonardo's sudden exit, which I hope one day he'll be able to explain, caught Inter off guard. All the top Coaches were already under contract.
"Having said that, I did like the way Gasperini's Genoa played when they had Diego Milito and Thiago Motta. They were attacking, fast paced and a joy to watch."
It is Gasperini's first big club and Altobelli points out he might not even have a year to make his mark.
"We know how football is experienced in Milan, Turin and Rome. Only victories fix things, starting from the Italian Super Cup against Milan in August."
