Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has axed Adriano for tonight's Super Cup clash with Roma at the San Siro.

"I am always sorry to leave out a player, whether it is Adriano or Mario Balotelli," said Mancini. "It is very difficult and I have the utmost respect for these choices. For example, we have six forwards and eight defenders.

"I hope things always go well and we don't have too many injuries so I can pick who is in best form. Inevitably, this will lead to disappointment for some every Sunday."

He added: "My choice with regards to Adriano was purely tactical. I spoke to him and I do not need to explain to anyone else what it is we said."
