Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti says they paid for their mistakes in their Champions League defeat to Schalke.
The Nerazzurri lost 5-2 in the first leg and not only could they not overturn it in Germany, they also fell 2-1 on Schalke's home turf.
"We knew it was going to be difficult, even if we didn't play the way we should've done," Zanetti told Rai Sport.
"Unfortunately you pay for certain mistakes in the Champions League."
Raul gave Schalke the lead on the stroke of half-time then, after Thiago Motta's equaliser, the Inter offside trap was sprung again by Benedikt Howedes.
"It's true that Raul's goal came from our mistake, because at that moment we were in control of the game."
