INSIDER: Watford furious with Marseille over Gueye interference

French reporter Manu Lonjon has revealed Watford aren't giving up on Bosman signing Pape Gueye without a fight.

Watford secured Gueye to a pre-contract earlier this year while he was still with Le Havre, but the midfielder now wishes to sign for Olympique Marseille. It was expected OM would cough up a nominal fee to the Hornets as compensation.

But Lonjon is quoted by Le 10 Sport: "OM may have problems with Watford for Gueye. Watford to approach FIFA to contest Gueye's signing by OM. They demand sanctions against the player, but also sanctions against OM.

"Gueye was under contract with Watford, the contract was official to the English federation. They want compensation. In this Gueye dossier, it's impossible that OM are right! OM may not be condemned because the player said he was free. But Watford finds that OM have been extremely cavalier.

"For them, this transfer in force of OM is borderline unconscionable. Gueye, for his part, tried to cancel his contract by saying that there were inconsistencies, and in particular the fact that he had not had a copy of his contract in French. But it is not legally required.

"In any case, there are precedents in France. Ghoddos in Amiens, for example, he had been suspended for several months. I'm not too worried about OM, but more for the player, because his contract was valid at Watford."
