Insider: Ajax have made contact with Tottenham defender Sanchez

Ajax have made an attempt to re-sign Davinson Sanchez from Tottenham.

That's according to De Telegraaf's Mike Verweij, while speaking on the newspaper's podcast.

While not a first-choice for Tottenham this season, Colombia international defender Sanchez has still managed 17 appearances, with seven in the Premier League.

Verweij reports that Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has sought to bring Sanchez back to Amsterdam this month, but Spurs are not in the market to lose any of their senior players - which also include another Ajax star in Toby Alderweireld.

Quoted by Voetbalzone, Verweij revealed: “Subsequently, an approach was made with the Davinson Sánchez area, whether he was open to it.

"But Spurs won't let anyone go; Not Sánchez and not (Toby) Alderweireld."

Sanchez joined Tottenham in 2017 from Ajax for a fee of €40m. Tied to the Londoners until 2024, Sanchez has an impressive record of 134 games for Spurs in all competitions and has managed to score once.

Sanchez came off the bench for Tottenam's last game - a win at Sheffield United - and is in the frame to be involved in tonight's FA Cup fourth round tie with Wycombe Wanderers.
