Manchester City midfielder Fernando has endured a tough debut season in the Premier League owing to injuries but is hopeful that he does not encounter the same problems next year.
Fernando joined the Citizens for £12million from FC Porto at the start of the campaign but his contribution has been limited due to persistent injury problems.
In a season full of setbacks, the Brazilian international injured his groin against Stoke City recently and consequently missed around three weeks of action. During the time, City were knocked out of the Champions League and fell off the pace at the top of the Premier League table behind Chelsea.
As a positive though, the tenacious midfielder marked his comeback to the side on Sunday by scoring his second goal of the season against West Bromwich Albion and he now hopes for an injury free campaign next year.
The 27-year old said: "I had a very good pre-season but unfortunately the injury got in the way and it's always very difficult to recover while you are playing the season.
"I try my best to deliver what I can to the team and this is what I will keep doing until the end of the season. There were a few games when I actually played with a few pains, but it is normal for a player to always want to be on the pitch and play as many games as we possibly can.
"I believe that even though I had some difficulties at that time, it was a temporary thing at a time when I had to adjust myself to the team. I hope next time I won't get injured so easily and can play as much as I can."
