Injured Australian players will be given time to prove fitness

Australia's injured trio of David Carney, Jason Culina and Luke Wilkshire will all be given time to prove their fitness ahead of Wednesday morning's Asian Cup clash with Bahrain.

Carney popped a shoulder, Culina hurt his knee and Wilkshire injured his groin in Friday's (Saturday morning AEDT) 1-1 draw with South Korea and are all in danger of missing the final group stage match where they must not lose to go through the quarter-finals.

Australian team doctor Mark Jones said all three players would continually be assessed leading into the match against Bahrain.

"They've pulled up reasonable so we'll just see how they are," Jones said.

"With the guys who have had injuries in the past, often those can settle down within a day or two, and a knock can often settle as well, so it's just a day-by-day situation."

Carl Valeri looks a straight swap for Culina if the Gold Coast United man doesn't get up but the other two positions are far less clear.
