Iconic Liverpool playing in iconic MCG perfect fit says Fowler

Robbie Fowler says the fact Liverpool get to play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is a great fit for the club.

The Reds take on A-League club Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night AEST as part of their 2013/14 pre-season tour of Asia and Australia and club great Fowler suggests the MCG will be a fantastic backdrop to the historic clash.

"You know what I love about that? The fact that Liverpool is such an iconic club playing in probably one of the most iconic stadiums, not in Australia, but in the world," Fowler said in an interview with Matt Windley of the Herald Sun.

"I think it's a perfect fit. It will be crazy, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way, the atmosphere and the passion will be phenomenal.

"Not many people get to play football on the cricket ground, the MCG, and I really just wish I was playing again so I could go sample it. But I think it's going to be a special night."

More than 95,000 fans are expected at Melbourne's home of sport this week as Australia's celebration of English football continues following Manchester United's visit to Sydney on the weekend.
