I appreciate Carver but I want Vieira at Newcastle - Sissoko

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has given his stamp of approval to the rumours involving Patrick Vieira.

The France and Arsenal legend is being linked with the potential takeover of managerial duties fro interim boss John Carver at St James' Park next season which has prompted excitement from Sissoko.

He told French radio station RMC: "I heard about this yesterday. If he comes to Newcastle I would be very happy.

"He was a role model for me. He played in the same position as I do. He allowed me to learn faster and faster, to be the best.

"At the moment, the manager is still John Carver. Even if the second half of the season was difficult, he is someone who I appreciate."

The Magpies have also been linked with a move for former England boss Steve McClaren after he was let go by Championship club Derby County last week.
