Aiden McGeady admits he is now more mellow when it comes to sitting on the substitutes bench.
The 29-year old winger made just 16 Premier League appearances for Everton under Roberto Martinez last season but insists he is much more prepared for a lesser role now than he once was.
The former Celtic and Spartak Moscow man used to go searching for answers from managers whenever he wasn't chosen but now he simply accepts it and works on what he has to in order to improve.
"I did that when I was younger," McGeady said.
"He [Martinez] pulled me and told me his reasons why I was not playing and that was it. It was good of him. From that point on, that was when I started saying 'okay, if he wants me to do that, I'll do that'. And that was it.
"I probably think now that if you are going to speak to the manager, you are trying to convince him why you should be playing.
"But he's got his own ideas anyway and you are not going to change his mind by talking to him. When I was younger I probably would have thought that... I would want to say my bit."
