Hunter: Valencia would be better off keeping Man Utd target Otamendi

Graham Hunter believes it would be more beneficial for Valencia to hold onto Nicolas Otamendi.

The Spanish football expert told Sky Sports that while he expects Manchester United to make a bid for the Argentine defender, he feels that los Che will want to keep him in order to bolster their squad which will likely be playing Champions League next season.

"Manchester United's interest in aquiring Otamendi is well established. Therefore, I would expect them to try to buy him in the summer," said Hunter.

"If they come in with £50million then Valencia have a decision to make.

"It is better football sense for Valencia's level to use the good players they have got to earn Champions League revenue."

However, if fifth-placed Valencia do not improve their current standing in La Liga, then perhaps they will be forced to offload such players as Otamendi who is a summer target for the Red Devils.

He added: "Of course if they don't get to the Champions League, then you could say everybody is for sale.

"If Valencia finish fifth, then their financial situation is such that big clubs will be able to pick off their best players."
