Reading striker Noel Hunt remains hopeful of extending his current four-and-a-half-year stay at the club. The Republic of Ireland star's current deal expires at the end of the season.
The 30 year old accepts his chances of first-team football will be limited if he does pen a new deal, but is keen to remain in Berkshire.
He told the Reading Post: "The gaffer spoke briefly about it the other day so hopefully we can start talks.
"I'll do whatever the manager wants me to do to keep this team in the league. I understand what the story is at the moment."
