Hull's Bruce backs Davies as World Cup bolter

Hull City boss Steve Bruce is of the belief that Curtis Davies could quite possibly force his way into England's World Cup squad.

The 28-year old centre-back has been in fine form this season, helping the Tigers into the semi-final of the FA Cup by scoring in the 3-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday.

That goal was his third in three matches and Bruce suggests the former Birmingham City and Aston Villa man is in a good enough place to press for Roy Hodgson's Three Lions roster for Brazil 2014.

"For me he's been outstanding all year for us, he's a proper defender who gets you the odd goal," he told ITV1.

"He's had a wonderful wonderful season (and) there's always a shock and where I see it, we're short in the centre-back position, why can't he? Because he's a fabulous defender."
