Hull legend Windass: New signings must make instant impact

Hull City legend Dean Windass says any new signing needs to make an instant impact.

The Tigers are expected to be busy today and Windass wrote in the Hull Daily Mail: "It's difficult when you come into a new club, especially midway through a season.

"You want to make an impact straight away, and there is no better way to do so than by getting on the score sheet.

"I had a happy knack of netting on my debut, scoring on my first outings for Oxford, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, as well as netting after making my switch from Bradford to Hull permanent in 2007.

"Abel Hernandez made that instant impact earlier in the season for City, netting three times in his first five games, including a goal on his debut against West Ham.

"But his plight since his impressive introduction has mirrored that of the club, as injuries and a lack of confidence have hampered Bruce's side since September.

"Coming into a team who are struggling for confidence can be difficult.

"Players can sometimes take a while to settle at a new club, even up to three or four months, but whoever arrives at City simply does not have that luxury and has to hit the ground running."
