Hull City legend Dean Windass says Steve Bruce was right to slam his players after their defeat to Burnley.
Bruce wrote in the Hull Daily Mail: "A lot has been said about Steve Bruce's criticism of his own squad and I have to say I completely agree with him.
"I remember losing a match against Preston North End 3-0 in the season we were going for promotion.
"Phil Brown came into the changing room and told us all that if we thought we were getting into the play-offs playing like that we had another think coming.
"But it was what we needed. We went on an amazing run after that and ended up reaching the play-offs and the Premier League.
"But that sometimes is what it takes. It takes a manager to come into training the next day and tell the players: 'You didn't want the ball yesterday so you're not getting the ball today - go and get your running shoes on.'
"The last thing Bruce will have wanted though was that 1-0 defeat to Burnley to come on the eve of an international break."
