Hull City are launching a £2 million bid for Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi.

The former England Under-21 hitman has turned down moves to Stoke and Ipswich because he does not want to move too far away from the North East.

Moving to Hull would suit Ameobi, who would not have to switch far from his Tyneside base.
