Hull keeper Harper not thinking about retirement

Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper is enjoying his late career resurgence on Humberside.

Harper, who will retain his place in Steve Bruce's side when visiting Arsenal on Saturday, is yet to make a decision over his playing future beyond the end of this season.

"I came back in July for pre-season and the manager spoke to me on day one," Harper told the Hull Daily Mail.

"He told me to get all thoughts of retirement out of my head.

"If you start thinking about it then your body will ultimately start to let you down as well.

"If you drop two, three or four per cent at this level it can be massive.

"He told me to forget all about that stuff and that's what I've done.

"I'll make a decision around my birthday when, in an ideal world, we'll have the 40 points on the board and be setting ourselves another target. We can talk about it then."
