Hull keeper Harper: Carver deserves Newcastle chance

Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper has backed John Carver for the Newcastle United job.

Carver is currently caretaker manager as Alan Pardew prepares to move to Crystal Palace.

Former Toon keeper Harper told talkSPORT: "John has got a good opportunity. I know him very well and the club is certainly in very good hands.

"John has got vast experience. He is black and white through and through, but he has travelled the world and he has been caretaker manager previously, not just at Newcastle but elsewhere.

"They are certainly in good hands and if they can get a positive result against Burnley that would put John in with a great chance of getting the job.

"Newcastle fans just want somebody that wins football matches and if that was to be a Geordie at the helm then that would be ideal for them.

"It doesn't matter which club it is, fans will want big-name managers but ultimately it comes down to winning games and John has got a good chance to do that tomorrow."
