In an age where young footballers are seen as spoilt brats, Hull City star Andy Robertson proves himself to be an exception to the rule.
Scotland international Robertson celebrated his 21st birthday recently and rather than treating himself to a lavish celebration, the young man decided to do something special.
Instead of gifts, Robertson asked his family and friends to make donations to a food bank during his bash at Parklands Country Club near Glasgow.
The Scotsman raised £500 for the hungry families and although the 21-year old was not present to hand over the cheque, his parents did the honours.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Robertson explained the gesture: "I was trying to think of something special to do and my parents came up with the idea of helping out East Renfrewshire Food Bank.
"It's not far from where I grew up, they do amazing work and I know they help a lot of people out. I made sure my friends and family were all well aware of the plans before the night and they were more than happy to pitch in."
Ewan Gurr, the manager for food bank charity the Trussell Trust in Scotland, hailed Robertson for his gesture and added that the amount was a significant one for the organisation.
Gurr said: "I am delighted Andy has identified one of the most practical ways of responding to need, by an act that may be small to him, but significant to the beneficiaries of East Renfrewshire Food Bank."
