Hull City's Robertson relishes Scotland goal but disappointed by England result

Andrew Robertson admitted it was a nice feeling to score his first goal for Scotland on Wednesday night.

The Hull City full-back, who was playing Scottish third division with Queen's Park in 2013, produced a clinical finish in the 83rd minute of his country's meeting with England at Celtic Park.

The goal brought the Scots back into the contest at 2-1 before England skipper Wayne Rooney netted his second of the night two minutes later to give his side a 3-1 away win.

Robertson was delighted to have opened his international account but suggests it may not have been as enjoyable as either keeping a clean sheet or scoring in a Scotland victory.

"Obviously, I was delighted to see it hit the back of the net. It was a proud moment for me and my family," said the former Dundee United star.

"After the game I was just disappointed but, maybe for that minute or two, I could just enjoy the feeling and hope that I had helped us get back into the game."

Robertson also touched on the performance of his opponents who were impressive for much of the 90 minutes in Glasgow.

"On Tuesday night, the English players were a better standard than us. But we never played to our best," Robertson added.

"Hopefully, we can get a shot at them again and show what we can do. They will be in for a much tighter game next time but, on this occasion, their standard was much higher."
