Hull City boss Steve Bruce is pleased with their sale of Jack Hobbs to Nottingham Forest.
The final sum is expected to be slightly in excess of the £800,000 paid by City to sign Hobbs from Leicester in June 2011.
"We had two clubs trying to buy him, it's as simple as that," said Bruce.
"We held the trump card in the same way Sunderland did with us last January with David Meyler.
"We've got a trail of emails from Forest where we've insisted we had a recall.
"The reason he went on loan to start with was the question over his knee after having a cruciate.
"It's been pretty normal between the clubs. In an ideal world they would have wanted to keep him until the end of the season so they could have him for nothing, but I've got to do everything I can to look after the club. We've got close to £1m for him so we're delighted."
