Chris Hughton was left stunned by his dismissal at Brighton last week.

The Sun says the 60-year-old was called into the training ground for what he thought was a meeting to discuss summer recruitment.

He was shocked and furious to discover he was being fired having kept the club up for a second successive season and reached the FA Cup semi-finals.

Brighton staff were informed of Hughton's sacking in a 9.15am email with the formal announcement coming 15 minutes later.

The ex-Newcastle boss had taken the club from 20th in the Championship to the top flight in his four-and-a-half years at the club.
