Hughes left frustrated as Stoke held by QPR

Mark Hughes was left to ponder what might have been as his Stoke City side were held to a 2-2 draw at QPR on Saturday.

The Potters hit the front through summer signing Mame Biram Diouf in the 11th minute before Steven Caulker levelled for the home side late in the opening 45 minutes.

Peter Crouch then edged Stoke ahead in the 51st minute but Niko Kranjcar was able to net with a late free-kick to give the R's a share of the points which visibly frustrated visiting boss Hughes who felt his side were good for a win.

"It's not a defeat but it is still disappointing for us because we didn't take maximum points from the game, when really we should have done," he told the club's official website.

"In terms of our general performance and general play we were markedly the better side today and we should have gone on to have won the game relatively comfortably.

"Unfortunately for us, we weren't able to navigate our way through crucial periods of the game, with the final few moments of each half being particularly decisive.

"You always expect the home team to come out strong early on, but we were able to manage that period, only to then let ourselves down a little bit at the end of the first and second half.

"That said, with the opportunities we created we should have been in a far more comfortable position going into the final stages of the game, which is frustrating for us.

"It is another point on the road for us, but the overriding feeling is that this was something of a missed opportunity for us."
