Hughes confirms Stoke's Begovic out with broken finger

Stoke City's Mark Hughes has confirmed that Asmir Begovic will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

The Bosnian goalkeeper sustained a broken finger in training during the week and will now miss a large portion of the next two months.

"Asmir's got a bad break of the finger. He's possibly looking at five to six weeks out," Hughes told Sky Sports after seeing his side lose 5-1 to Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

Thomas Sorensen deputised for Begovic at St James' Park but could do nothing as the Potters had Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson sent off in the first half, leaving Hughes' formation in tatters.
