Huddersfield Town midfielder Adam Clayton is set to join Middlesbrough on a permanent basis.
The 25-year old former Manchester City and Leeds United man is on the verge of sealing a move to the Riverside Stadium which will see Boro's Jacob Butterfield head to Huddersfield.
A statement on Boro's official website read: "Boro are in the final stages of completing the transfer of 25-year-old Huddersfield midfielder Adam Clayton, with Jacob Butterfield expected to move in the opposite direction.
"The clubs hope to put the finishing touches to the move (on Wednesday)."
It is believed that the transfer fee for Clayton will initially be £1.5million which could rise to £2m with add-ons.
Former England U20 international Clayton has been with the Terriers since 2012 and has made 94 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit.
