Huddersfield midfielder Hogg: Van Dijk deserves to be Player of Year

Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg admits they face a near impossible task of beating Liverpool tonight.

The Terriers will be one of the biggest underdogs in top flight history when they take on Liverpool.

Hogg voted for Virgil van Dijk as PFA Player of the Year and admits there is no better defender in world football.

The midfielder said: “I voted for him because he's got everything. He's like a Rolls Royce of a defender.

“He's so calm and such a leader. I wouldn't mind having him in my back four.

“He deserves it for what he's done for Liverpool since he arrived. Everyone used to say they needed a centre half and leader - and he's gone there and done that.

“He is the main man at the back. The driving force of the team, even though he is a centre half.

“Everything goes through him. He starts play and he's like a wall. It's like playing against a machine. He's top class, the best in the world."
