Houston Dynamo's new stadium made possible by former Oilers quarter-back Luck

Houston Dynamo striker Brian Ching has thanked Oliver Luck for the work he did in helping the MLS franchise build a soccer specific stadium.

The Dynamo will play their first match in the BBVA Compass Stadium this weekend with Ching very grateful to the clubs inaugural president who got the ball rolling on the development of the club.

"Oliver gave our franchise instant credibility when he was here," Ching told the Houston Chronicle.

"He was the right man for the job. He was involved in the process before, and he gave our organization direction immediately.

"He knew who to talk to, and he knew how to go about getting us a stadium. A big part of the stadium today is because of his vision and his contacts. We can't thank him enough."

And Luck, whose son Andrew was recently selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the number one pick in the NFL draft, was delighted to see his hard work come to fruition.

"I take a certain amount of pride and satisfaction in seeing the building there and ready to be used and sold out," Luck said. "It validates the belief that many people had, AEG included, that Houston was going to be a great soccer town.

"In the 2000s, here we were the largest market in the country without an MLS team. For validation in the belief that Houston was going to become a great soccer city, we needed a venue like BBVA Compass Stadium."
