Houston Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron and head coach Dom Kinnear were both gutted to see the USA U23 team fail to qualify for this summer's Olympic Games.

Caleb Porter's team were beaten in disastrous fashion earlier this week when they conceded a late goal to be held to a 3-3 draw by El Salvador which denied them a path through to the next qualifying phase.

As soccer in the US seemed to be taking steps forward, this failure was one of three by American national teams in the past nine months which has appeared to halt progress which Dynamo's Cameron is well aware of.

"Obviously, it's a shock to the US men's soccer team and the system," Cameron said. "They had some good plays. Maybe just some errors and whatnot. There's just pride. You want anybody in the situation representing the national team in the United States to do well.

"Obviously, I'm disappointed for the guys, and I feel gutted for them."

And Dynamo coach Kinnear admitted he felt bad for old teammate Porter, young Dynamo defender Kofi Sarkodie and the team as a whole after the failed to get through a group which consisted of Cuba, Canada and El Salvador.

Reading the comments and myself sitting on the couch watching it, I know Caleb, and I felt really bad for him. Obviously, we have a personal interest in Kofi on that team.

"You really feel bad for the kids. It just goes to show you that anything can happen in soccer. I think if you look at the group, the US was favored."
