Houston Dynamo owner de la Hoya excited about new stadium

Houston Dynamo co-owner Oscar de la Hoya was delighted to see things get underway for the club's brand new stadium.

A cast of thousands were at the East End site to see the breaking of ground which included Dynamo coaches, players and executives all take to the shovel for the symbolic dig.

The 10-time world title-winning boxer said it was a great event for the club who will move into their brand new stadium in June 2012.

"This is really a dream come true," de la Hoya told the Houston Chronicle.

"The Dynamo is a great team in Houston and for soccer in general. All these kids looking up to the team, to build a home for them really is something special."

And head coach Dom Kinnear was happy that the loyal Dynamo fans were now getting something for themselves.

"I'm happy for them," Kinnear said. "About six years ago, they were soccer-starved. They were given a team and organization, and they supported us. They are a part of this. For this to come to them, they obviously take part and pride in this."
