Houston Dynamo boss Coyle: I turned down six jobs after Wigan

Owen Coyle has revealed that he rejected six job offers before taking the reins at Houston Dynamo.

The Scottish tactician was sacked as manager of English Championship club Wigan Athletic in December 2013 but was extremely selective before making his next move into management.

Coyle was appointed as head coach at the Dynamo in December last year and just over a week out prior to the 2015 MLS campaign, the former Bolton and Burnley boss revealed that plenty of proposals went by the wayside prior to him agreeing terms with the Texan club.

"I turned down six jobs after I left Wigan, and I just didn't feel the connection was right when I sat with people. But it felt right when I sat with (Dynamo president) Chris Canetti," Coyle told MLSsoccer.com.

"And it didn't matter to me where it was, whether it was the USA or somewhere else, it had to be the right challenge.

"I had to know what the chairman-president was about. I knew what it was about so I knew it was everything I wanted."

Coyle's debut MLS campaign with the Dynamo opens up against Columbus Crew at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday, March 7.
