Holman wants fourth-place finish for AZ Alkmaar

Brett Holman has urged Dutch club AZ Alkmaar to put in a big performance for their last game of the season. The Australian international helped AZ to a 5-1 thrashing of De Graafschap on the weekend, scoring his side's second goal in stoppage time of the first half before providing assists for Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Graziano Pelle in the second term.

The win allowed Alkmaar to remain three points clear of fifth-placed Groningen, who won 4-2 against ADO Den Haag.

Now with one match left against ninth-placed FC Utrecht, which contains fellow Aussies Michael Zullo, Adam Sarota and Tommy Oar, Holman is desperate for a win to avoid Europa League play-offs so he can rest up for Socceroos duty.

"In June I will play again with the Australian national team," Holman said. "Recently I have had contact with the coach (Holger Osieck) and he would like all players there.

"If we finish fourth then I can rest before. That would be nice.

"We will not look into the results of our competitors," he added. "Next week against FC Utrecht we'll just go for the victory. It's good not to rely on other results.

"A fourth place finish would be ideal. If you look at all the players who left the club, you can tell fourth place is a splendid result. It would be fantastic."
