England coach Roy Hodgson hopes David Beckham stays involved with the game after announcing his retirement.
Having clinched the French title with Paris Saint-Germain, Becks was tempted by PSG's offer of a one-year extension.
But he told friends he wants to quit at the top and not have a final year fizzle out through injury.
Hodgson said: "David's a man of many talents and a lot of people will want him, which could take him away from football.
"But I'm hoping we'll be able to keep him as we can really benefit from his experience, charisma and his magnificent past as a player."
